Global TESOL Taiwan celebrating its one-year success in Benefiting Students and Teachers!

TESOL stands for Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages from a North American perspective. It is one of the common acronyms among the TEFL, TESL family used to refer to the field of teaching English. This teaching qualification is available as a Bachelor’s or a Master’s study but most popularly in certification and diploma training programs. TESOL training programs are growing in demand to reflect the dynamics of the English teaching industry.

As the education system is increasingly emphasizing the importance of English as a second language, busy parents raising academically competitive children are turning to branded cram schools and shallow language testing systems. Since the majority of English classes happen in cram schools, likely founded by business-oriented rather than educationally well-advised owners, many curriculums are loosely strung together and English speakers are hired without sufficient prior qualification or adequate post-training to face the frontiers. Thus, students become the subjects of rote memorization learning and curriculum cramming, while the teachers’ efficacy are often shaken due to their students’ inefficient increments and the high attrition and turn-over rates for students and teachers respectively. Unfortunately, instead of seeking venues, some teachers learn to be passive or detached and regard their employment as solely an exchange of time for an above average hourly salary.

The increasing awareness of these issues is leading to changes in all parties for the better, including the policy makers. In the beginning of Spring 2004, ARC regulations of foreign teachers have raised their bars. Foreigner employment service act No. 46.1, 1~10: #40 reads foreign teachers must have college and up education, those with under 4 years bachelors must also have TESOL, or teaching qualification. By College and up education, it means those universities or colleges recognized by R.O.C.’s ministry of education with a 4 years degree program. Those with diplomas or degrees under this qualification must also have TESOL or teaching qualification. For details please see
www.evta.gov.tw This requirement is also reflected in postings for English teachers demanding for applicants with TESOL and or BA.

TESOL qualifies educational directors not just legally in status, but also equips them with the proper educational knowledge to produce a win-win situation for all parties- students, parents, schools and teachers. It opens doors for teachers to better positions and pay as well as providing the security of obtaining ARC.  TESOL program provider such as Global TESOL College, originally based in Canada (registered under HRDC since 1994,) has entered Taiwan to supply this demand.

With close to one hundred graduates from all parts of Asia who are now inspired teachers, Global TESOL College in Taiwan has recently celebrated their one-year success. Global TESOL College, registered under the government of Canada HRDC is North America’s original (since 1994), and most popular TESOL certification program provider due to their international reputation, quality of their unique hands-on teaching methods and their lifetime international employment support. There is a solid curriculum of TESOL approaches and methods for all language aspects including phonology, linguistics, positive attitude training and the use of humor, and activity/ communicative based learning. Teachers gain student understanding from dynamic role reversal techniques and endless exchanges of experiences on pedagogy issues among other teachers. They also enhance their classroom management techniques and broaden their lesson delivery ideas through rehearsals of TESOL lesson planning and delivery. Beyond the theory and practical techniques of language teaching, Global TESOL College’s intensive curriculum has helped many teachers to understand the true value of their profession and gain pride, confidence and passion in teaching. Now one year after they first entered Taiwan, Global TESOL College is looking to inspire many more teachers and school personnel!

NEW !!!

Andy Chen August 2009

"Thank you once again for helping me through this course, I did a teaching demo today in front of all the teachers at school, they were shocked with it, my boss even told me that she never expected an experienced teacher like myself to improve in a scale like the way I did .. I shone today because of what u taught me in the course... cheers."

1. Amber & Xiang Yu Chen
Thank you so much for the TESOL course and coordinating with my husband. I really enjoyed not only the course but also the people there as well. I learned  lot that I know I will use in the near future (today as a matter of fact) and hope to use professionally when I move to Taiwan. I hope that you enjoy these cookies. I hope they make it there in one piece and aren't just small crumbs. I will start the specialization course here soon after I top off my MBA(April 13th !) so you may run across some of my lesson plans. I hope to see you again, maybe for the refresher course in 2 years. If not then, sooner for a trip to meet up with Candice and Vivian. Thank you again.

2. (Peter Lin, graduate, Taiwan teaching in 3&3 bilingual school)
Much thanks for the “intensive” TESOL course and it really did help me a lot! I know you already had tons of appreciation cards or letters from all your students, but why not add another one in your collection. Although I haven’t complete the course yet, but I already had gained many knowledge and experience through out this 5 days with your class and especially all the advice and conversations we had.

3.(Elliott Elexander Wakeling graduate,Taiwan)
I really enjoyed the TESOL course, and I have to say you are a excellent TESOL teacher. I have already been teaching in Taiwan for over two years, but the course has really taught me a lot. Teaching a foreign lesson, and being a new student in other lessons was a real eye opener. I no longer feel like a fraud, and now I can really teach my students English. The foundation course is only the begginning, and I plan to keep improving my craft. I will recommend the course to anyone who is interested.

4. (Louise Crouse graduate,Taiwan)
Thank you so much for all your help. Everything seems to be working out. I went to Bangkok and got a visa, so I'll apply for my resident visa tomorrow. Doing the TESOL was wonderful and rewarding. I had a great time. I am encouraging my friends to do it too. I am interested in doing the Tourism too.

5. (Maegan Yen, graduate, Taiwan)
I got your letter, and I would like to let you know that I appreciate for writing us back.
The foundation course and the other specializaion courses (which I am working on right now), are very insightful, enlightening and a great help to the way I teach, organize my lessons & class. Basically, it gave me more confident.
I will do my best to send you mail assignments within this month. Meanwhile, take care, and keep in touch.

6.(Noel Evangelista graduate,Taiwan.now teaching in Janpan.)
GOOD DAY! Whew!-- The first word that came out of my mouth when I stepped out of the TESOL building that sunday (the graduation day). At last! Finally! I made it, which at first, I thought I was going to give up. I mean, it was because of the heavy work and the working schedule of 16 hours a day in the factory that almost discouraged me.
I'm sure you can remember those two girls running along the seashore trying to find crabs for dinner but they couldn't find any? (Anne of Green Gables). Now you're smiling! Well, those were the moments that I'll surely miss the most on Sundays since the graduation day.---the way you, Katie and Michael laughed at me whenever I crack jokes during discussions. Guys, you've laughed the loudest among others! I've really had a great experience!
I'm planning to go to Japan (tentative) on the second week of December. My sister, who, at present was also an English Teacher in Japan,(she was a member of the Japan Association for Language Teaching) is encouraging me to join her on her quest. I'm looking forward to start teaching from there(I'm still working on the visa).By the way, please teach me how to use the passwords that you gave us, I've tried it a while ago but it didn't work. About the assignments, I'm still working on it.

7.(April Casanada, graduate, Taiwan)
I am very proud to tell you that I got a teaching job which is full time and they offered me salary which is somewhat same as native speakers. I went for interview today and the school superintendent was impressed when I showed my TESOL certificate. I couldn't believe that they will offer me that kind of payment. I thought they wouldn't hire me since I'm not a native speaker, but it's all about "what you know" plus my TESOL certificate helped me a lot to get this job.
Again, thank you so much Anne! TESOL program is very helpful. I suggest that those people that aspire to teach English must acquire TESOL certificates. More power to you.

8. (Emily Lee,graduate,Taiwan)
I really enjoyed them and I firmly believed that all the related lessons would foster my future’s teaching angles/ideas.

9. (Norma Severyns, Montreal, PQ, Canada)
This course explained, reinforced and expanded on the knowledge and experience I have gained teaching ESL in Canada over the past ten years.

10. (Robin Schneider, Lethbridge, AB, Canada. Robin lives and teaches in Japan)
I have been teaching English in Korea and Japan for the last years. I must say, with all honesty, that this TESOL course was the single most important factor that took me from being a confused university math graduate, to being a successful and confident English teacher

11. (Rebecca Lin July 31,2005graduate, Taiwan)
Thank you for your encouragement, they like my demo They said my demo was very interesting and funI am so happy about it I won’t have the chance if it wasn’t you and TESOL course helpedme a lot for sure The school wants me to teach beginner level and they also asked me do I have time to teach kindy. While I was preparing for the lesson plan, all the things of what I learned from TESOL course were coming back to my head. Other classmates’ teaching experience and the foundation book are really helpful, I’m still working on Grammar book

12. (Nataliea Vanderheyden,graduate,Toronto,ON,presently teaching in Ratchaburi,Thailand).
I thoroughly researched all other English teacher certification programs across Canada and this organization offers the most credible and professional course by far. The emphasis on training me as an English teacher was exactly what I need.

13. (Michael Lyon, TaipeiTaiwan).Thank you, I think more laterally now. The cram school is also profiting from your teaching. I feel happier with myself now. Before this, I didn’t really see the point in lesson prep, because I didn’t get paid for it.

14. (Leanne Duke, graduate, Edmonton, AB, Canada ).On my first day in Guadalajara, Mexico, I secured an EFLjob at a reputable school without a degree or any knowledge of the Spanish language. Their main re4quirement was a government approved TESOL certificate from a reputable school Thanks Global TESOL

15. (Nick Pavic, graduate, Toronto, ON ,Canada.)
When I finished my university degree in ESL, I wasn’t confident that I could walk into a classroom and teach, because the courses I had taken were strictly theoretical in scope. Upon completion of your course, my teaching skill have been more effective and professionalfurthermore I am able to teach in a meaningful and program at university.

16.(Chuck Judge, graduate, Vancouver, BC).

The employment opportunities and contacts presented to me in this course me realize that, with this certificate, I could teach in almost any country in the world

17. (Chu-Wei, college student, Taiwan)
